I have been an avid supporter of Chaya since I moved to Seattle in 2005. For those who do not know about it, Chaya is a non-profit organization that assists women victims of domestic violence from a South-Asian background. It a cause that is close to my heart and I have seen the direct results of their invaluable services through several of my clients. Chaya has an annual fundraiser every year. This year it was held on May 16, 2009 at the Grand Hyatt in downtown Seattle. Approximately, 50 non-paid volunteers commit their time for about six months to prepare and organize the event. I am one of those volunteers. This year’s auction and dinner was thought to be the best yet. The event has become the South-Asian party of the year in the Seattle community. Approximately 380 people attended the glitzy evening. Preliminary estimates are that over $125,000 was raised- not bad for this economy! Check out their website for more information at www.chayaseattle.org.
