USCIS announced today that data entry of all FY15 H-1B cap petitions has been completed. USCIS will now begin returning all H-1B cap petitions that were not selected in the lottery. U.S. businesses use the H-1B program to employ foreign workers in occupations that require highly specialized knowledge in fields such as science, engineering, and computer programming. The above notice is from the USCIS. As you may recall, the USCIS received 172,500 petitions where only 65,000 were available to Bachelor’s degree holders and 20,000 additional reserved for Master’s degree holders. A lottery was conducted on all petitions on April 8. Premium processing began on April 28.
If you have not heard about your case yet, you should start thinking about your options. If you are on OPT, you have 60 days to remain in the US from date you receive notification of the unlucky lottery. You can learn more about the OPT timeframes/regulations on the USCIS website.
