We are so proud and honored to announce that our guest tomorrow on Tahmina’s radio show on Desi 1250 Am at 1o AM will be none other than our very own Washington State Senator Pramila Jayapal! Pramila is a trail blazer particularly for our South Asian community breaking so many barriers and leading the way for the community as a whole to have to a voice in our society and nation.
Pramila Jayapal is a Washington State Senator representing the 37th Legislative District in South Seattle and parts of Renton and Skyway. Senator Jayapal is a leading national advocate for immigrant, civil, and human rights, having worked for more than a generation to improve the lives of immigrants, low-wage workers, communities of color, and women. She’s been a community leader with deep roots in South Seattle, living and working in the 37th Legislative District for almost twenty years.
She founded OneAmerica in the wake of September 11, 2001, to fight against the targeting of Arabs, Muslims, and South Asians, and to “bring together a broad-based coalition of organizations from different ethnic and religious communities, politicians, and government agencies.” (Color Lines, 12/01) She served as Executive Director for almost eleven years, during which OneAmerica “grew to become the leading voice in the state on immigration and an increasingly influential advocate in the ongoing battle for reform nationwide,” according to the Seattle Times.
State Senator Pramila has done so much more than we can even begin to summarize. From rubbing shoulders with President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Gloria Steinham and even Oprah Winfrey- she makes us proud everyday to have her as our representative!
Over the years, she has been an inspiration and mentor and I am grateful she will be on the show tomorrow.
Tune in to listen to and learn from her about why she became the advocate that she is fighting for our community and why you should care too. Learn about her incredible efforts on immigration reform also. In her own words, “Democracy is a not a spectator sport” and if you care about your community and immigration reform, this is an unmissable interview!
Tune in on Tuesday October 27th at 10 am on Desi 1250 AM! You listen on your radio or live online! Share your thoughts if you do join us!
