I am delighted that my guest tomorrow will be Felicia Escobar Carrillo! Felicia served as Special Assistant to President Obama on Immigration Policy! Many of the thoughtful and immensely impactful policies set by the previous administration, such as DACA, H4 EAD, STEM OPT, International Entrepreneur Rule, and much more, were led by her. It is an incredible honor to have Felicia on my show!
Felicia is a seasoned policymaker and coalition-builder with experience working in the government and nonprofit sectors. Most recently, she served as Special Assistant to the President for Immigration Policy. In this role, Felicia developed President Obama’s immigration policy agenda.
This work involved developing the President’s immigration reform principles, drafting legislative proposals, and providing technical assistance to Congressional offices. She also played a key role in the development and implementation of immigration executive actions pursued by the Obama Administration, including the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy and the President’s 2014 Immigration Executive Actions. She also led the White House Task Force on New Americans, including its Building Welcoming Communities Campaign, to encourage local communities to engage in welcoming and integration efforts.
Prior to this, Felicia worked in the U.S. Senate for U.S. Senator Ken Salazar during the comprehensive immigration reform debates of 2006 and 2007 and for Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle. She started her career at the National Council of La Raza advocating for Latinos in the Texas State Legislature.
Recently, Felicia served as the Principal Consultant for the L.A. Justice Fund, a public-private partnership that seeks to increase access to legal services for immigrants in removal proceedings. She is also a member of the American Bar Association’s Commission on Immigration.
Felicia received a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University, a Masters in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and her Juris Doctorate from UCLA School of Law.
Felicia will be on my talk show “Tahmina Talks Immigration” for a very special show during drive time at 4pm on Friday October 13th on Desi 1250am. If you have questions, you are welcome to email me in advance at [email protected]
A huge thank you to Felicia for taking time out of her busy schedule for joining me to talk DACA, H4 EAD, current immigration challenges and much morel
