Election Edition: Newsletter from Watson Immigration Law

Watson Immigration Law Newsletter
Election Edition
November 2020
Dear Client, Reader, Listener, Viewer and Friend,
What a year! 2020 will sure go down in history as one of the most difficult years ever. And among all the chaos, we have finally arrived at Election Day.
As an immigration law firm, we have one of the greatest privileges of helping our clients reach their American Dream of becoming a U.S. citizen. Thank you to all of clients that allowed us to be part of your journey. If you never read about my journey to American citizenship, here is the story.
I know that you hold your citizenship responsibilities dear. Nevertheless, I cannot help but remind you to be part of democracy and part of one of the most consequential elections in history.
If you have not voted already, you will have until the evening of Tuesday November 3rd to cast your vote. Please do! And if you feel inclined, we would love to see your photos of you casting your ballot. If you send us your photos, we would love to be able to post them on our WIL social media. Or, feel free to tag me on social media so I can reshare.
A few notes:
  • If you are voting tomorrow (on Tuesday), and it is a mail-in voting area- drop your ballot at a ballot drop box only. Do NOT mail at a USPS mailing box!
  • If you are voting in person, please do take a snack/drink with you and please do wear a mask.
  • https://iwillvote.com/ You can find out where to vote at this link.
The face of immigration and the course of this country will change if Trump gets reelected. In October 2020 alone, we have seen many changes in immigration regulations- on H1Bs, and more (I will not list them today as I don’t want to distract you from the message of voting). But suffice to say, H1B visas will not be the same next year. Visa specific travel bans remain in place. Other areas of immigration are also affected.
Your vote matters. Please vote.
If you are a green card holder and are not able to vote- you are an influencer! You can ensure your friends and family vote. You have a role to play too.
Thank you and keep us posted!
My book in paperback!
I am delighted to let you know that my book is out in paperback!! It made it as a bestseller!!
If you were waiting for a print version, it is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other online platforms. I do hope you will get the book, and perhaps consider gifting it as a holiday present also.
Portions of the proceeds will be donated to 3 separate non-profit organizations- Lawyers for Good Government, FWD.us and WIDEN.
The book is about hope, inspiration and what ordinary people can do to make a difference. And even though I highlight lawyers, anyone can step up to make an impact. Please get the book and send me a photo of you with the book! I’m creating a collage for the zoom book launch party (date/time yet to be confirmed!). Be part of this journey with me!
I am very grateful that Yes! Magazine published an excerpt of the book. Here is a link. Hope you will read and share.
The book was inspired by a podcast series with the same name “Legal Heroes in the Trump Era” on our podcast. Here is a link to the podcast. Would love for you to subscribe to it so you can receive notifications of new episodes that are released. Please also rate and review, if you don’t mind, so that others can discover the podcast. T
Sharing happy news:
It is an absolute honor to inform you that
I am one of 18 other women who have made a difference in the Puget Sound area as civic leaders.
The award ceremony will be held on November 12th at noon PST. I would love to see as many of you as possible there! The link above will take you to the registration page.
Thank you to the Puget Sound Business Journal for this recognition!
Some of my appearances:
I’ve appeared in a lot of media recently. Here are a few links:
  1. My article published by South Asians for Biden.
  2. I was honored to be a guest on the podcast Changes Big and Small.
  3. My interview about the US election on Nadja.co, a UK online publication.
Post election information:
I have done a lot of Get Out the Vote (GOTV) events this year- I’ve lost count. I was honored to speak on a South Asians for Biden Panel, and many other South Asian events that I helped organize and moderate. I have done phone banking as well. But the post-election chaos is likely inevitable also. And for that reason, I volunteered with some of my lawyer friends to create this document on Know Your Rights on 1st and 2nd amendments. This document is for Washington State laws only. Feel free to share widely.
Please be safe, wear a mask, and practice self-care.
On behalf of all of us at WIL,
Warmly, Tahmina
Please note that we moved our office address to
