Reuters reports on details of Immigration reform bill for undocumented people

A few moment ago, Reuters published an article Senators unveil bipartisan immigration bill under which some terms have been unveiled for how undocumented people will have their path to citizenship.

1. Must have entered the United States PRIOR to December 31, 2011.

2. Must pay an immediate fine of $500.

3. Pay back taxes

4. Clear a criminal background check.

5. There will be NO automatic green card. One must apply for a green card through an expanded merit-based system and likely pay a $2000 fine.  The green card will be for 10 years.

6. Citizenship will be an additional 3 years after the 10 year green card.

There will be much debate about the bill once it is announced. Here is a reminder of how a bill becomes law.

We await the bill to scrutinize the details therein.  Stay tuned. We are getting very close to the big day!
