The Immigrant and Refugee community is a large part of our society. A community that is rich in worldly experiences and life. But the community needs much help. For this reason, the City of Seattle, under the leadership of Mayor Ed Murray created the new Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs (“OIRA”). The OIRA helps with various welcoming and educational programs. Please do check out the website.
With the forthcoming election in mind, the OIRA is trying to ensure barriers are broken down to help the community take part in the voting process. Many do not vote, even if eligible, for a multitude of reasons. The City is trying to find out why to better serve the community.
To that end, the City has initiated a new survey, Seattle Votes. If you were born outside the US and are over 18, please complete the survey! The survey will help make voting easier for everyone!
This is one of the most important elections in America’s history. Every single vote matters. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact me and I will be happy to connect you to the appropriate people.
