In this episode of Tahmina Talks Immigration®, host Tahmina Watson speaks with Clive Stafford Smith, a British-American human rights lawyer and internationally recognized expert on Guantanamo Bay detention cases.
Clive has represented over 80 detainees held at Guantanamo Bay and has dedicated his career to defending civil rights and challenging the death penalty in the United States. His work has been instrumental in overturning death sentences and advancing justice for individuals facing the harshest outcomes of the legal system.
He is a co-founder of the Louisiana Capital Assistance Center in New Orleans, which became the largest capital defense organization in the southern United States, and a founding board member of the Gulf Region Advocacy Center in Houston, Texas. Today, Clive is the founder of Justice League in the United Kingdom, continuing his global advocacy for human rights and the rule of law.
In this powerful and thought-provoking conversation, Tahmina and Clive discuss detention, due process, the human impact of immigration and national security policies, and the moral responsibilities of legal systems.
