Tahmina Watson Speaks on Startup Visas at the International Bar Association

The International Bar Association annual conference hashtagibaparis was a fantastic and inspiring event. I was a panelist on the ‘startup visa’ panel with some of the most prominent lawyers from various jurisdictions. It was such an honor! Thank you, Nick Rollason, Greg Siskind, and other committee members, for all the hard work behind the scenes organizing this and other panels. It was definitely a great learning opportunity for me too, to understand how startup visas work in different countries. Well done to all the panelists including Jelle Kroes Stephen Green Oluwapamilerin Blessing Adepoju- Akabunwa, Nick Rollason and Jean Christophe Dumont.

I loved seeing my friends from the American Bar Association including the Immediate Past President Deborah Enix-Ross with whom I worked as the King County Bar Association President earlier this year. Together, with a fabulous legal team, we were able to pass a resolution that the US Supreme Court justices must have a binding code of conduct. I am so proud of the work we did. I also loved seeing my American Immigration Lawyers Association friends including Greg Siskind Rekha Sharma-Crawford Jacqueline Rose Bart, Managing Partner, BARTLAW LLP, Canadian Immigration Lawyers and several others.

In my past life as a young barrister in the UK, I looked up to Baroness Helena Kennedy and I was so grateful I got to meet her and give her a copy of my Legal Heroes book!

The International Bar Association gave me the opportunity to make new friends and see old ones. I am glad I got to see some super women lawyers including Anne O’Donoghue, Laura Devine and Ann Symonds.

This was a timely event for me as my new US immigration visa guidebook for startups and founders was just released in Spanish! I have had some amazing feedback from readers and cannot wait to hear what others think. Here’s a link https://lnkd.in/gSrcC5mb. Please share with anyone who needs to read this.

And lastly, I loved walking around the city of Paris with my camera taking bird photos at parks and landmarks with my sister Tamanna Jahan. I cannot wait to download and share them in due course. I started a Paris collection of photos in case anyone is interested https://lnkd.in/gk2K_37g

I enter the last few months of 2023 with immense gratitude. Thank you, International Bar Association for having me as a speaker this year.
